Frank O. Gehry: Digitální praxe / Digital Practice
O tom, co mohou změnit informační technologie nejen v projektování a provádění stavby, hovoří Irena Fialová s Jamesem Glymphem, partnerem kanceláře FOGA. Na dalších stránkách přinášíme 11 vybraných projektů Gehryho kanceláře z posledních let, realizovaných s použitím 3D modelovacího softwaru Catia.
Frank Gehry is one of the those designers who are shifting the limits of architecture in our time toward new, unexplored territory. The striking appearance of his buildings, which often suggest huge sculptures, attracts a wide audience: they give the impression that they were created in one gesture, as easily as a figure skater’s pirouette. The large-scale forms have great evocative force, and suggest phantasms of the “real world” which may have been their model. The contribution of Frank Gehry and his team to contemporary architecture lies not only in the design of daring forms, but also in the methods with which they are built. The complex geometry in Gehry’s designs can be realised only thanks to advanced information technology. In the 1990s Gehry’s office, arrived at a unique working method which combines classical architectural model building with the most advanced computer technology, such as the Catia software, originally intended for the aviation and automobile industries. The changes that information technology can bring, not only in the design and construction of a building, are discussed by Irena Fialová and James Glymph, a partner in Gehry´s office. On other pages we present 11 selected projects from the last years, realised with the use of the Catia 3D modelling software
